Email & Accounts
Can't sign in to your email account
Password rejected, account locked, or a verification code that never arrives. Work through it in the right order to avoid a longer lockout.
Read before you start
Never enter your password on a page you reached from an email link. "Verify your account" texts and recovery-code requests are the most common way accounts are stolen.
This guide is for you if
- Password not accepted
- Account locked after failed attempts
- Verification code never arrives
Step by step
Work top to bottom0 of 6 steps done
Rule out the simple causes
Check Caps Lock, keyboard layout, and whether you are on the work or personal domain. Type the password into a plain text field first so you can see it.
A saved old password in the browser will keep failing — type it manually.
Wait out the lockout
Most providers lock the account for 15–60 minutes after repeated attempts. Waiting beats retrying, which extends the lock each time.
Reset from a trusted device
Use the provider's official reset page, ideally from a device that still has a session. Reset requests from an unfamiliar network are often silently blocked.
Fix the recovery route
If the code goes to an old number or dead address, use saved recovery codes or start account recovery — on a desktop, not the failing device.
Check mail sync separately
If webmail works but the mail app does not, the app password is stale. Re-add the account, or generate a new app-specific password where two-factor is enabled.
Escalate before you lose access
If recovery is refused, contact the provider with account details, purchase receipts and dates. The longer you wait, the less recoverable an account becomes.
